According to the office National des Chemins de Fer (the National Bureau of Railways) the derailment of a passenger train on Thursday evening, in Fez, which left 45 people injured, may have been caused by an ?act of sabotage committed by unknown persons.?
?According to the primary previews, the accident may be related to an act of sabotage committed by unknown persons who stole several stabilizers used to consolidate the rail, causing the disintegration of rail track, thus derailment of the train,? read the statement issued by the National Bureau of Railways.
The source added that the rescue teams of the National Bureau of Railways, supported by local authorities, moved immediately to the site of accident.
The train departed earlier in the day from Oujda (540 km east of Rabat) and was due to arrive in Fez at around 7 pm.
Immediately after the incident, the passengers expressed their disgruntlement at the state of the train in Morocco.
